To ensure a green, livable and sustainable City, we strive to preserve and enhance our Urban Forest both on Public and Private lands. More than 80% of our Urban Forest is located on private property.
The City of Abbotsford manages the trees on all lands owned or managed by the City. Trees on Crown or Regional lands are managed by the agency who is responsible for the subject property.
If you have comments or questions regarding management of trees on private or public property, please contact the Abbotsford Parks Division at 604-859-3134 or email
For advice about trees or to report an issue with a City managed tree, please contact Abbotsford’s Urban Forestry Section by calling the City Operations Yard at 604-853-5485 or contact us through the City of Abbotsford App.
The City of Abbotsford’s Tree Protection Bylaw No. 1831-2009 is in place to help preserve the Urban Forest on private lands in Abbotsford.
Before cutting down, topping or otherwise damaging any tree greater than 20cm in trunk diameter (measured 1.4m above the ground), you must apply for a Tree Cutting Permit so any requirements may be determined.
Please note: Properties within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) are exempt from this bylaw.
