The City of Abbotsford is supplied by a regional water system that supplies water to approximately 160,000 residents in Abbotsford and Mission. The system is operated by the City of Abbotsford.
There are 3 water sources: Norrish Creek, Cannell Lake, and several wells in the Abbotsford Sumas Aquifer. The surface water and most groundwater is disinfected with chloramines. Water from Norrish Creek is also filtered and Cannell is treated by UV disinfection. Water is transmitted through pipes from the sources to major take-off points or to one of two regional reservoirs. The two municipalities operate their distribution systems independently from the regional system.
