April 9, 2025 - 34th Annual ACLN Prayer Breakfast
Council attended the 34th Annual Abbotsford Christian Leaders Network Prayer Breakfast on the theme of "Justice in the Community," with Mayor Siemens offering a response to the keynote address by Salvation Army Centre of Hope program manager Al Breitkreuz.
April 5, 2025 - Epilepsy in Full Colour Art Exhibition opening
The Centre for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in BC’s Epilepsy in Full Colour Art Exhibition, featuring works by people affected by epilepsy from across BC, opened at Kariton Art Gallery. Councillor Barkman and MLA Banman welcomed guests and thanked the Centre for their work supporting people living with epilepsy.
March 31, 2025 – Lightning Rock site land transfer
Mayor Siemens joined Semá:th Chief Dalton Silver, BC Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Christine Boyle and others at the BC Legislature in Victoria for the official signing ceremony for the transfer of the Lightning Rock site from the Province of BC to Semá:th First Nation.
March 19, 2025 - 2025 BC Seniors Curling Championships opening ceremony
Mayor Siemens with Abbotsford Curling Club past president Don Truscott and current president Chris Lamb, tournament chair Debi Sand, Abbotsford Curling Club GM Kent Bird, and Sherri Taylor and Jeremy Shap from Curl BC. The Mayor attended the opening ceremony to welcome the competitors to Abbotsford.
March 13, 2025 - Make a Difference Sale
Mayor Siemens with Canadian Foodgrains Bank BC representative Jet Takaoka, MP Vis, and Make a Difference Sale directors Rob and Bob Brandsma. This year’s sale raised nearly $400,000 to help farmers across East Africa.
March 8, 2025 - Golden Tree farm workers memorial vigil
Mayor Siemens with members of the families of Sukhvinder Kaur Punia, Amarjit Kaur Bal and Sarabjit Kaur Sidhu, the three women who died when their work van crashed 18 years ago. Councillor Chahal (not pictured) also attended to pay her respects and support safe working conditions for farm workers.

Mayor Siemens joined Chief Watson and AbbyPD members, Special Olympics athletes and the public for an icy dip in Albert Dyck Lake in support of Special Olympics BC’s Polar Plunge fundraiser.

Mayor Siemens attended the ANAC BC AGM to provide an update on flood resiliency and answer audience questions.

Mayor Siemens, Councillor Sidhu and Mission Mayor Horn stopped by the Canadian Blood Services Abbotsford Plasma Centre and rolled up their sleeves to help CBS reach their daily 450-donor goal.
March 1, 2025 - 2025 Pacific International Judo Tournament
Deputy Mayor Ross welcomed competitors to the tournament along with Abbotsford Judo Club head instructor Layton Keely and Judo BC president Ian Briggs. Councillor Barkman (not pictured) was also at the event.

Mayor and Council donned pink shirts to show their support for the national anti-bullying campaign.
February 22, 2025 - Coldest Night of the Year
Deputy Mayor Ross and Councillors Barkman and Loewen joined Cyrus Centre’s Matt Loewen at this year’s Coldest Night of the Year, which raised $42,000 to helps Cyrus Centre offer services and shelter to youths experiencing homelessness in our community.
February 21, 2025 - Live to Give
Yale Secondary students raised $16,000 at their annual Live to Give fundraiser. Deputy Mayor Ross, school board chair Wilson and trustee Kanda-Rajwan were there to thank them for their generosity.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community presented a World Religions Conference about the relevance of religion in modern life. Deputy Mayor Chahal welcomed the attendees and spoke about the importance of our faith communities coming together to learn from one-another.
December 19, 2024 - Operation Red Nose
Mayor Siemens, AbbyPD Chief Watson and Sergeant Walker volunteered for this year’s Operation Red Nose to help keep our roads safe by giving holiday revelers a ride home after a night out.
December 18, 2024 - Crystal Gala cheque presentation
The Crystal Gala Foundation presented a cheque for $619,600 to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation to go towards the purchase of a new MRI machine and software to detect breast cancer.

Deputy Mayor Chahal gave greetings from the City and thanked the school for bringing music into the lives of so many people.

Mayor Siemens and his wife Kelly attended the opening of the three-day Very Merry Mango Market, featuring more than 100 local artisans, plus workshops and food trucks.

Mayor Siemens and Councillors Gibson and Loewen toured the Ravine Park Hatchery and learned about its history, the issues it faces and the important role it plays in protecting and growing the salmon population in Abbotsford.

Mayor Siemens helped light the tree with Santa and Mrs. Claus to officially kick off the holiday season in Abbotsford.

Communitas marked 50 years of providing mental health supports and services to people of all abilities in Abbotsford and beyond. Mayor Siemens thanked Communitas for their work and leadership, and stressed the importance of facing challenges with hope and positivity.

The City of Abbotsford received the Industry Partner of the Year award from the Canadian Home Builder’s Association Fraser Valley in recognition of its partnership to deliver a series of educational workshops to building industry professionals on the BC Energy Step Code.

Councillor Loewen addressed the crowd at the second annual Smiles Through Seva Foundation Gala. This year’s event supported the Starfish Pack Program providing food to local children in need.

Local wrestling champ Jasmit Phulka helped young athletes test their skills at his inaugural JP74 Sport Abbotsford Combine at the UFV Athletic Centre. Mayor Siemens was there to help present awards to the top athletes and talk about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
September 28, 2024 - Care For Women Walk/Run
The Care For Women Walk/Run supporting mothers in postpartum care in the Fraser Valley took place at Mill Lake Park. Mayor Siemens and Councillor Driessen participated in the event and the Mayor spoke about the importance of parenting and motherhood in society.

The Mennonite Central Committee hosted “Growing in Reconciliation: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Gathering” featuring remarks by former Lt. Gov. the Honourable Steven Point. MLA de Jong presented the King Charles III Coronation Medal to former mayor George Peary for his years of public service and his significant contributions to the community as an educator and through his charity work.
