Frequently Asked Questions

• Can the lockers accommodate oversized bicycles/e-bikes?

  All lockers are a standard size. The internal dimensions are approximately: 

  • Height: 114cm / 9’ 6”; 
  • Width: 77cm / 2’ 5” ; 
  • Length: 190cm / 6’ 3”. 

  Please check that your bicycle fits within these measurements before use.

• How much does it cost to rent a bike locker?

  The rental fees are structured by term length: 

  • 1-month rental: $12.50 + GST
  • 3-month rental: $32.50 + GST
  • 6-month rental: $65.00 + GST

  A refundable key deposit of $35.00 is also required upon initial registration. This deposit will be returned to you when the key is returned in acceptable condition at the end of your rental term.

• Where are the bike lockers located?

  The bike lockers are located at the Montrose Transit Exchange.

• How many bikes can I store in a locker?

  Each locker can accommodate a maximum of two bicycles.

• What happens if all the lockers are already rented?

  Once all lockers are in use, you can be placed on a waitlist. Placement on the waitlist is on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is no fee to join.

• Can I leave my bike in the locker overnight?

  No, the lockers are intended for daily use only. You should not leave your bicycle or any other personal property in the locker overnight. The City may remove and dispose of any items left overnight without prior notice.

• How do I renew my rental agreement?

  You can renew your agreement at the end of your term either in person at the City's Engineering Department or by calling (604) 864-5514. You may also choose a different term length upon renewal.

• What is the process for ending my rental?

  If you do not wish to renew, the agreement will automatically expire at the end of your term. To get your $35 deposit back, you must return the key in good condition within five business days of the expiration date.

• Can I cancel my agreement early?

  Yes, you can terminate the agreement before its automatic expiration. You must provide notice of cancellation at least ten (10) business days prior to the expiration date, either in-person or by telephone. A limited reimbursement may be available for cancellations of 3-month or 6-month terms, based on the number of full calendar months remaining. To be eligible for any refund, the key must be returned within five (5) business days of cancellation.

• What happens if I lose my key?

  The agreement states that the City is not responsible for immediate bike retrieval if you lose your key. Failure to return the key at the end of the term will result in the forfeiture of your $35 deposit.

• Are the bike lockers secure?

  While the lockers provide a secure place for your bike, they are not actively monitored or regularly patrolled. Your use of the facilities is at your own risk. You are not permitted to share your key with anyone else.

• Are there any restrictions on what I can store in the locker?

  Yes, you are prohibited from storing any illegal, hazardous, flammable, explosive, perishable, or otherwise unsuitable items. This includes, but is not limited to, chemicals, fuels, firearms, and ammunition.
