When is my glass bin picked up?
Glass is collected manually every 2 weeks, on the same day as your curbside recycling pick-up. Please refer to your 2025 collection calendar for your collection dates by signing up for the app or checking out your Collection Schedule.
When does glass collection begin?
Glass collection service begins on Monday June 2nd, 2025.
Where do I place my glass bin for collection?
The grey bin goes beside your collection carts, with 1 metre between the carts and the bin to allow for safe cart collection. Do not place your grey bin on top of your carts. Please also ensure that your bin is visible and not hidden behind carts or objects for efficient collection.
What glass products are allowed in the grey bin?
All glass packaging including jars and bottles will be collected. Lids must be removed and placed in the blue cart. Glass must be rinsed clean but labels may be left on. Refundable glass bottles can be returned to a participating bottle depot, however, should you wish to forgo your deposit refund, you may include refundable beverage containers in your grey bin. Unaccepted items will not be collected.

Can I get an extra grey bin?

What if my bin isn't full?
The grey bin does not have to be full to be collected. You can put out what glass you have on your collection day.
What if I have too much material to fit in the bin?
Please don't overfill your bin or it may not be collected. If you have extra glass, it can be taken to a recycling depot or put out on your next collection day.
Why haven't I received my glass bin yet?

If you have not received your grey bin by May 19th, please contact the City at 604-864-5640 or email waste@abbotsford.ca

Why is glass collected separately from other recyclables?
Glass can easily break during collection. When broken glass mixes with paper and other containers, it becomes difficult to properly sort, and therefore recycle, these materials. Separating glass at curbside or delivering glass to depots helps ensure that more of it—and more of the other material—is recycled. That’s why Recycle BC asks that residents sort glass into its own container, separate from other recyclables at curbside.
Where does my recycled glass end up?
Recycled glass is used to create new glass bottles, sandblasting materials and construction materials here in BC. Glass can be recycled endlessly without any loss in purity or quality, making it a great circular economy material.
