Mark is a lawyer, with a special interest in public service, effective board governance, and collegial decision-making. His vision is to bring smart economic growth to Abbotsford, so that our residents can enjoy affordable housing, quality lifestyles, better recreation opportunities, and community safety.

Mark is a founding partner of Linley Welwood LLP, a full-service law firm. His practice includes real estate, business transactions, financing, corporate and commercial law. He holds a B.A. (magna cum laude) from the University of Saskatchewan (1988), and a J.D. from the University of British Columbia Law School (1992).

Mark has extensive board experience. He was the City of Abbotsford’s appointee to the Abbotsford Police Board from 2016 to 2022.  He served many years on the board of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, including as President from 2018 - 2020. He was the Chamber’s appointee to the City’s Transportation Advisory Committee, and was the Provincial appointee for a number of years to a medical college board.

As a fourth generation resident, Mark has deep local roots going back to his great-grandparents. His grandparents farmed in Mount Lehman and Aldergrove. Mark and his wife Brenda live in Abbotsford. Their children were enrolled in Abbotsford’s French Immersion program, graduating from W.J. Mouat Secondary. His daughter is a graduate of University of Oxford, and his son is a graduate of Trinity Western University. 

In his spare time, Mark enjoys trail running, vintage cars, travel, and motorcycling.
