March 8, 2026 - Farmworkers’ Memorial Vigil
Deputy Mayor Driessen and Councillor Sidhu attended this year’s memorial vigil for Sukhvinder Kaur Punia, Amarjit Kaur Bal and Sarabjit Kaur Sidhu, who died when their work van crashed in 2007.

Deputy Mayor Driessen and Councillor Chahal attended UFV’s South Asian Studies Institute’s (SASI) “Trinjan Mela: A Celebration of South Asian Women” with SASI acting director Garry Fehr, SASI research associate Dr. Asma Qadri, SASI coordinator Raaynaa Madaan, UFV president Dr. James Mandigo, and SASI founding director Dr. Satwinder Bains.

Ken Ryu Jujutsu Society president Kenneth Brake presented Mayor Siemens with his organization’s Community Cup in recognition of City Council and staff fostering a safe and inclusive environment where volunteers and organizations thrive, and for encouraging local innovation and solutions to meet social, health and wellness needs in our community.

This year Yale Secondary School’s Live to Give campaign raised $16,000 for Canuck Place. Mayor Siemens, school board chair Stan Petersen and superintendent Nathan Ngieng attended the celebration, where student MCs Clara Thiessen, Kareena Sandhu and Hannah Zimmerman presented a cheque to Chantelle Bowles, Canuck Place senior officer, major gifts.

During their trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens, BC Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Greene, and Semá:th First Nation Chief Silver took part in a press conference on flooding in Abbotsford, stressing that critical flood-mitigation measures are required to safeguard our communities, economy, trade and energy infrastructure, and provincial food security.

July 20, 2025 - Sikh Heritage Museum exhibition opening
Councillors Chahal and Ross at the opening of the new year-long exhibit at the Sikh Heritage Museum at Gur Sikh Temple on prolific BC photographer Chandra Bodalia and the history of gurdwaras in BC. On behalf of the City, Councillor Ross thanked the Bodalia family for gifting their father’s vast collection to UFV and spoke about the importance of preserving this historical record.
