Updates:
October 2023 - Upper sections of the work are to be re-constructed by the Province and efforts are underway to have the work ready for construction window of Aug-Sept 2024. Lower sections will require some minor point repairs, that will be completed by the City and remediation plans will also be ready for the above construction window.
March 2022- Channel widening and deepening and sediment trap upgrades are almost completed. Remaining work is slated to take place in August-September 2022 during Fisheries work windows.
Background:
The City of Abbotsford (City) is working to implement the recommendations of the Clayburn Creek Integrated Stormwater Management Plan report, and the next step is to complete channel improvement in the lower portions in Matsqui Prairie to improve flow capacity. The work zone starts downstream of the Clayburn Museum site at 4315 Wright Street and continues downstream for approximately 800m ending at the west boundary of 34416 Clayburn Road. Work includes channel widening and deepening, a sediment trap improvement and adding a short section of berm. The goal of the channel improvements is to reduce the severity and frequency of flooding experienced in lower Clayburn Creek, and at the same time make improvements to enhance fish habitat. The City’s design / environmental consultant will oversee the work, along with First Nations archaeological monitors.
The Clayburn Creek Improvement Project will be completed by MAREX Constructors Ltd. The work has Provincial approvals in place and the contractor will begin in August and be complete by late October 2022, weather permitting.
