Summer is finally in full swing, which means events big and small are taking place across our community.
Like many Abbotsford residents, Council will be out and about this summer to enjoy everything our city has to offer. From our beautiful parks and trails to our bustling Historic Downtown and our farm-to-table agri-tourism attractions, there is so much to see and do right here in Abbotsford.
As a City Council we love the many events and amenities that bring our residents together and strengthen community connection. And during the summer, when people often have time off from work and school, there are even more opportunities to gather with friends and family to explore our community.
As we saw earlier this month at Canada Day and Berry Fest, our community always comes out in full force to celebrate the things that make Abbotsford great. And just around the corner we have two more major events that recognize significant parts of our history, economy and identity.
From July 31 to Aug. 2 Agrifair returns to Exhibition Park. This celebration of our agricultural heritage is in its 117th year and it continues to be a longstanding tradition for locals and visitors alike. We’re excited to be part of Agrifair’s opening ceremony, but you’ll also find Council members at the annual Pioneer Tea, 4-H competition and the RCMP’s Musical Ride.
It’s always a joy to attend events that recognize our agricultural sector. Our farms sit on the most productive land per hectare in Canada and produce about half the eggs, turkeys, chickens and dairy consumed in B.C. The local farm economy generates approximately $3.83 billion in economic activity each year and supports 16,770 local jobs. These are all reasons to celebrate, and we hope that as you’re enjoying the rides and attractions, that you also take time to reflect on what farming means to Abbotsford.
Another event celebrating what makes our city special is the Abbotsford International Airshow, which touches down at Abbotsford International Airport from Aug. 7 to 9.
Abbotsford is part of the largest aerospace hub on the continent with Washington State, and we are home to a world-class fixed/rotary-winged aerospace cluster. Our City-owned airport has been one of Canada’s fastest-growing passenger volume airports over the past decade. It is a leader in ultra-low-cost travel and in 2025 it reached the 1 million passengers mark for the third straight year.
For more than 60 years the Airshow has been a celebration of Abbotsford’s aerospace excellence and today it is Canada’s biggest aviation festival, attracting 75,000 guests each year from Canada and beyond. This year’s Airshow will be your last chance to see the legendary Canadian Forces Snowbirds perform their spectacular aerial routines before they go on an extended break as they wait for their new jets. You won’t want to miss it.
These are just a couple of major summer events happening in Abbotsford in the coming weeks, but there’s a lot more going on in our community. Other events to look forward to include AbbyPD’s Community Family Movie Night, Symphony in the Park, Nagar Kirtan, Stetís ímexstowx and Taste of Abby.
