Traffic Management Plan Guidelines

When construction or events take place on City roadways, it’s important to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently. To support this, the City of Abbotsford requires a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) as part of a Highway Use Permit or Highway Excavation Permit.

A TMP is a combination of text, figures, and drawings that outline how traffic - that includes vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists - will be guided around a work zone or other temporary use of the road.

By laying the groundwork of consistent standards for TMPs, the City of Abbotsford helps ensure that people and goods can continue to move safely and efficiently, even when roadways and/or sidewalks or bike lanes are temporarily impacted. All TMPs must follow applicable guidelines, including the BC Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways, the City’s Street and Traffic Bylaw, and WorkSafeBC regulations.

To assist with the preparation of TMPs, the City has developed a set of guidelines outlining submission requirements and standards. You can access the City’s Traffic Management Plan Guidelines document here: Guidelines for Traffic Management Plans.
