Overload or Oversize Vehicle Permit

An Oversize/Overweight Vehicle Permit is required when the size and/or weight of a vehicle(s) exceeds the normal limits permitted by legislation. Vehicles travelling on city streets require an oversize vehicle permit if the vehicle exceeds the following specifications below:

  • Maximum width:
    • Vehicle including load: 2.6 m
  • Maximum Length:
    • Single vehicle including load: 12.5 m
    • Semi-trailer including load: 23.5 m
  • Maximum Height:
    • Vehicle including  load: 4.15 m
  • Legal Weights:
    • Legal weights for the City of Abbotsford are as per the Commercial Transport Act [RSBC 1996]

Abbotsford’s Street and Traffic Bylaw No. 3066-2021 regulates the permits for Overload/Oversized Vehicles. 

Required documents:

  • Proposed route map.
  • BC Provincial Permit document (required if BC Provincial Permit was issued).
  • Certificate of Insurance.
  • Signed route clearance letters from the BC Ministry of Transportation, BC Hydro, and
    Telus (as applicable). Required for loads greater than 4.88 m in overall height.

    To Apply:

  • Complete the online application form
  • Include the route that is to be travelled by the oversize vehicle that is the shortest and most direct accessible connection between the nearest Truck Route and the destination. Include the return route. Please attach maps of the desired route.
