Flood Watch and Heavy Rainfall Warning in Effect

The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch across parts of the coast and Lower Mainland, including the Fraser Valley. High stream flows and localized flooding are possible, particularly at lower elevations and in areas with poor drainage.

Environment Canada has also issued a yellow-level Rainfall Warning for Fraser Valley West, including Abbotsford, with a prolonged period of heavy rain expected through to tonight. We are expecting 75 – 100 mm of rain in the Fraser Valley which may result in pooling water on roadways, reduced visibility at times, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Be aware:

  • Rivers and creeks may rise quickly over the next few days.
  • Heavy rainfall can cause pooling water, erosion, and unstable riverbanks.
  • Avoid walking near river edges, ditches or fast-moving water

Residents are asked to:

  • Stay away from stream banks and watch for changing conditions, particularly if you live in low-lying areas or near waterways. (Riverbanks that look stable can be eroded beneath the surface, causing unstable ground that could collapse.)
  • Ensure your catch basins are clear of debris and leaves. If you notice your catch basins are clogged, please call the Operations Yard at 604-853-5485 or report through our City app.
  • Check downspouts to ensure water flows away from your home
  • Avoid driving through pooled water / Do not drive across flooded roads
