Abbotsford Police Department Expansion

Renovation of the existing APD building continues on track:

• Curtain wall installation is nearing completion, sealing building before inclement weather.
• Exterior cladding work is underway.
• Structural upgrades of building are now 50% complete.
• Mechanical, electrical, and steel stud rough-ins are progressing steadily across the site.

The project remains on track for renovation completion by end of June 2026.
 

• Renovation efforts remain on track.
• Work has started on the exterior curtain wall and envelope enhancements. 
• Roofing demolition is now complete, along with the installation of the new vapour barrier membrane. 
• Inside, demolition of the old jail cell block walls and installation of structural upgrades are continuing.
•  The City Hall parking lot has been newly paved and is ready to open. This area will temporarily serve as additional visitor parking until the eastern section is re-surfaced and opened in Spring 2026.

• Renovation activities are advancing as scheduled. 
• Selective demolition of interior partitions and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems is underway to facilitate the installation of upgraded infrastructure. 
• Concurrently, the removal of existing exterior cladding is in progress to accommodate a new high-performance building envelope system, designed to provide thermal and aesthetic continuity from the existing structure with the new addition.

• The new Abbotsford Police Department building was completed at the end of April 2025. APD operations have transitioned into the new building over the past 4 weeks. 
• With this milestone achieved, the project has transitioned to Phase 2 which consists of the renovation of the existing Abbotsford Police Department building. 
• This phase will involve a comprehensive interior refurbishment, replacement of the exterior envelope, and structural upgrades to enhance the building’s resilience. 
• During the renovation period, the Abbotsford Police Public Service Counter has been temporarily relocated to the Community Policing Office, located at 34194 Marshall Road. Public Service Counter will return to the APD headquarters upon renovation completion in Q2 2026.

• The new Abbotsford Police Department (APD) building is scheduled for completion this month. 
• APD staff will transition into the new facility over the subsequent weeks.
•  Following this, renovations of the existing building will begin, encompassing comprehensive interior and exterior upgrades. During the renovation period, the site office will be remain located in the upper parking area adjacent to City Hall. This parking area will be reinstated as City Hall visitor parking in the summer of 2025.

• The Abbotsford Police Department Expansion project is continuing well with significant progress in the past months. Roofing was completed through the spring and summer months. 
• Envelope work is ongoing around the building including cladding and curtain walls installation.
• Inside the building, mechanical, electrical, and elevator installations are well underway. Concurrently, drywall installation, painting, T-bar ceiling, flooring, and millwork are all progressing in a zoned and sequenced system. 

• The concrete superstructure of the building has been completed. The focus now shifts to the building envelope and interior. 

• The expansion construction is currently in progress, with the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) continuing regular operations from the existing building. 
• Construction works will take place from 7 am to 7 pm Monday - Friday with limited construction done on weekends and holidays.

There will be minor changes to our public parking during the construction.
