Highways Use Permit

A Highway Use Permit is required if events or activities will disrupt regular vehicle or pedestrian traffic on City roads and sidewalks. Highway Use Permits are issued to regulate traffic management plans and monitor alternate route patterns associated with these permits and ensure the traveling public is safe on City roads and sidewalks.

All Highway Use Permits must have a traffic management plans that meets the City of  Abbotsford Traffic Management Plan Guidelines and the permit will not be process until these requirements are met. 

Abbotsford’s Street and Traffic Bylaw No. 3066-2021 regulates use of City streets and sidewalks.
 

Highway Excavation Permit (HEP) Highway Use Permit (HUP)
Required anytime someone needs to excavate, dig into or disturb a City-maintained road or right-of-way to access or install infrastructure. Required to safely manage disruptions to traffic or pedestrian flow on City roads or sidewalks caused by events, activities, or temporary structures. Ensuring public safety and proper traffic control.

  • Utilities Installations (Ex: Telus, Shaw, Fortis, BC Hydro)
  • Borehole Drilling
  • Pavement Restoration
  • City of Abbotsford Contracts

  • Festivals
  • Marathons
  • Filming
  • Temp Structures (Ex: scaffolding, fencing, signage blocking street, garbage bins)
