ABBOTSFORD, BC – September 9, 2026 – Abbotsford City Council has directed staff to proceed with the next phase of site and design works at a City-owned 39-acre parcel of land at 1010 Lefeuvre Road, advancing Council's commitment to deliver future sports, recreation and park amenities for residents.
"Council's priority is clear, we need more recreation and sports amenities and park space to serve a growing community," said Mayor Ross Siemens. "Moving forward with the Lefeuvre Road property allows us to continue building momentum and take meaningful steps toward delivering those services for residents."
Staff will now focus on how this property can be purposefully developed as the future site for sports and recreation amenities as part of Council’s long-term vision to create additional recreation and sports facilities for residents and community sports groups. The decision aligns with Council's broader community-building objectives in the Sport Field and Sport Court Strategy and further builds on positive moves made on actions signalled in the Arena Services and Facilities Strategy, and the Aquatics Services and Facilities Strategy.
"The LeFeuvre Road property provides an opportunity for Council to continue advancing this important work immediately," said Siemens. "By moving ahead with site analysis and technical investigations now, we can position ourselves to make informed decisions and ensure we keep moving toward our goal."
Site testing and feasibility works will continue at 1010 Lefeuvre Road through the fall.
"This decision reflects Council's determination to invest in the facilities and amenities our community needs," said Siemens. "While the path forward may continue to evolve, our commitment to creating new recreation opportunities for Abbotsford residents remains unwavering."
