ABBOTSFORD, BC – September 2, 2026 – The City of Abbotsford and the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) are pleased to announce the successful completion of the Abbotsford Police Department Headquarters expansion project, with the completion of Phase 2.
Marked by a ceremonial opening and flag-raising on September 2, this significant milestone represents a continued investment in public safety, providing police officers and civilian staff with modern facilities and resources to support their work in keeping Abbotsford safe.
Building on Phase 1’s four-storey expansion, Phase 2 focused on renovating the existing headquarters and integrating it seamlessly with the new addition. The upgrades further enhance the functionality and efficiency of the facility while providing capacity for future growth as Abbotsford's population continues to increase.
The project began in September 2022 and cost a total of $83.65M. Phase 1 of the two-phase project was completed in April 2025.
“As Abbotsford continues to grow, so does the need for modern public safety infrastructure," said Abbotsford Mayor and Police Board Chair Ross Siemens. "This investment reflects our commitment to keeping our community safe by providing the Abbotsford Police Department with the facilities and resources needed to deliver exceptional service to residents now and in the years ahead. Thank you to all who contributed to making this headquarters a functional, innovative and welcoming space that will serve both our police department and our growing community well into the future.
The completion of the project marks a significant transformation of a headquarters originally built in 1988 for the Matsqui Police Department. At the time, the facility supported 74 officers and staff serving a population of approximately 58,000 residents. Today, AbbyPD's nearly 350 officers and civilian staff serve a growing community of more than 175,000 residents.

With the completion of the renovation, the Public Service Counter has returned to AbbyPD Headquarters after temporarily operating from the Community Policing Office on Marshall Road during construction.
