As a City Council we love getting out into the community to get to know our local business owners and operators a little bit better. One of the ways we’ll be doing this is through our new Business Spotlight program where Council will be visiting businesses in the community to learn more about their products and services, and how we can help them continue to grow and succeed.
On Jan. 30, we were fortunate to have our first Business Spotlight visit at Longboard Architectural Products, an innovative Abbotsford-based business that manufactures premium aluminum architectural products for markets across North America.
Meeting the team and checking out the facility was extremely fascinating and informative. During the tour of their purpose-built facility, we learned how their 165 employees use cutting-edge automation, robotics and autonomous equipment to efficiently produce high-quality, innovative products. We also learned about the history of Longboard, their corporate culture, their commitment to community involvement, and some of the issues that they face as they continue to plan for future growth.
Whether it’s through our past Business Walks, or our Agriculture and Manufacturing Bus Tours, it’s important for us to strengthen our connections and further our understanding of the issues facing the members of our diverse and vibrant business community.
We recognize that this program is something our businesses want as well. Research undertaken as part of our new Business Retention and Expansion Strategy found that businesses are interested in having regular opportunities to connect with us so that we can better advocate on their behalf to senior levels of government.
Overall, this was an informative experience that will help us support our local business and give them what they need to continue to grow and thrive. We look forward to our next Business Spotlight visit and further developing our relationships with our business community.
