With a pair of elections coming up, now’s the chance for you to have your say on who represents you on Abbotsford City Council, the Abbotsford Board of Education and at the Provincial Legislature in Victoria.

This month, two elections are being held one week apart: the municipal election and provincial election. Municipal Election Day is Saturday, Oct. 17. This year there are four candidates for Mayor, 22 people seeking eight Council seats, and 20 hopefuls vying for a spot on the seven-member Board of Education.

On the Oct. 17 municipal Election Day, voting takes place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at: 

  • Old Abbotsford Courthouse (32203 South Fraser Way)
  • Abbotsford Exhibition Park drive-through voting at Gate 2 (32470 Haida Dr.)
  • Abbotsford Middle School (33231 Bevan Ave.)
  • Aberdeen Elementary School (2975 Bradner Rd.)
  • Bradner Elementary School (5291 Bradner Rd.)
  • Eugene Reimer Middle School (3433 Firhill Dr.)
  • Máthxwi Elementary School (33661 Elizabeth Ave.)
  • Robert Bateman Secondary School (35045 Exbury Ave.)
  • Sema:th Elementary School (36321 Vye Rd.)
  • South Poplar Traditional Elementary School (32746 Huntingdon Rd.)
  • St. John Brebeuf Regional Secondary School (2747 Townline Rd.)
  • Yale Secondary School (34620 Old Yale Rd.)

In order to make it easier for residents to get to voting places and cast their ballots, BC Transit will offer free transit on municipal Election Day.

Advance voting took place on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and resumes Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the old Abbotsford Courthouse, while drive-through voting is available at Abbotsford Exhibition Park Gate 2 off Haida Drive.

And while you’re in the voting mood, be sure to cast your ballot in the upcoming provincial election. This is when you get to select the Member of the Legislative Assembly who will represent you in Victoria. Advance voting takes place from Friday, Oct. 16 to Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Election Day is Saturday, Oct. 24. Advance and Election Day polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
