Spud Murphy Park

Project Type: Parks & Trails
Project Status: Planned
Project Description

The existing rubber tile play surface has reached the end of its service life and requires full replacement to ensure continued safety and accessibility for all users. We are currently working with a supplier to transition to a pour‑in‑place (PIP) rubber surface, which will provide a seamless, durable, and fully accessible play area.

The City is also applying for the Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) Grant, which if approved will contribute $30,000 toward project costs upon completion.

Upgrading to a pour‑in‑place rubber surface will deliver several long-term benefits, including:

  • Reduced maintenance requirements compared to aging rubber tiles
  • Improved accessibility due to a continuous, level surface-
  • Enhanced hazard identification and easier cleanup
  • Overall aesthetic improvements to the park environment

This upgrade will significantly extend the lifespan of the play surface while supporting safety, inclusivity, and long-term operational efficiency.
