Spud Murphy Park

Project Type: Parks & Trails
Project Status: Current
Project Description

The existing rubber tile play surface has reached the end of its service life and requires full replacement to ensure continued safety and accessibility for all users. We are currently working with a supplier to transition to a pour‑in‑place (PIP) rubber surface, which will provide a seamless, durable, and fully accessible play area. We will also replace both swing sets with identical ones as well as adding and accessible swing seat.

The City received funding from the Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC) Grant, which will contribute $30,000 toward project costs upon completion.

  • Upgrading to a pour‑in‑place rubber surface will deliver several long-term benefits, including:
  • Reduced maintenance requirements compared to aging rubber tiles
  • Improved accessibility due to a continuous, level surface-
  • Enhanced hazard identification and easier cleanup
  • Overall aesthetic improvements to the park environment

This upgrade will significantly extend the lifespan of the play surface while supporting safety, inclusivity, and long-term operational efficiency.
