Essendene Storm Tunnel Rehabilitation

The Essendene storm tunnel carries stormwater from Mill Lake and surrounding areas through the historic downtown core to Willband Creek. It is one of the most critical components of the City’s stormwater network due to its size, depth, and proximity to existing buildings and major intersections. Condition assessments have identified the need for significant upgrades:

• Internal Structural Liner: Required from the pipe inlet to McCallum Road to reinforce the tunnel.
• Ground Stabilization: Needed outside the pipe from McCallum Road to Pauline Street to provide additional support and protect the surrounding infrastructure.

These improvements will help maintain the integrity of this essential system and ensure reliable stormwater management for years to come.
