Advanced Metering Infrastructure Replacement Program

The City of Abbotsford will be replacing the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Water Meter System starting in May of 2023. AMI allows water meters to be read remotely, which provides information for the City to anticipate water demands, helps with early leak detection, and allows residents to better track their water consumption habits.

The work will be performed by Metercor, the installation contractor who was retained by the City. During the 10-month installation period, Metercor will dispatch a team of installers who will replace the meter interface unit (MIU)/antenna and lid for every water meter box around the City. Residential water meter boxes are typically located on the property line of driveways or front lawns. Most commercial building meters are also located in water meter boxes at the property line but some may be located inside utility rooms.

The work will not impact your water use and you do not have to do anything to prepare for your MIU replacement. Installers will not need to turn off your water or enter your home.

During this transition, we may need to estimate your bill based on past water use and the next actual meter reading will adjust for any over or under estimate. Further, the WaterWise Webportal will not be available throughout the duration of the replacement program.

For questions regarding your utility bill, or for any questions regarding the installation of your automated meter reading equipment, you may direct your inquiries to the City of Abbotsford Engineering Water Use Line at 604-864-5511 or email at wateruse@abbotsford.ca.

Please note that the WaterWise Webportal is no longer available and has been discontinued at this time.
