Resident feedback wanted on draft updated OCP

Bulletins

As part of the ongoing Abbotsforward 2050 project, the City of Abbotsford is inviting residents, businesses and community partners to provide feedback on the draft updated Official Community Plan (OCP).

The OCP is the City’s key planning document, and this update lays out a renewed long-term vision for how Abbotsford will grow and evolve over the next 25 years. Building on the foundation of the current OCP, which was adopted in 2016, the Abbotsforward 2050 updates aim to reflect updated community priorities, increase housing supply, respond to recent changes to provincial legislation, and consider the infrastructure, parks, amenities, and other supports needed for Abbotsford’s growing population.

Informed by community input gathered in the first phase of engagement, the draft OCP changes aim to affirm the community’s shared vision, strengthen Abbotsford’s plan for future growth and development, and support the city’s continued evolution as the cultural and economic Hub of the Fraser Valley.

The City is now launching the final phase of public engagement and will be gathering feedback on the draft plan throughout the spring. Community input is essential to ensuring the final OCP reflects the needs and vision of those who live and work in Abbotsford.

There are several ways to learn more and provide feedback on the draft changes, including:

  •  An online survey opening May 14, 2025
  •  Public open houses:
    • Saturday, May 24, 11 am – 4 pm at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre (Near Purdy’s)
    • Wednesday, May 28, 6 pm – 8 pm at Mountain Elementary (2299 Mountain Dr.)
    • Saturday, June 7, 11 am – 4 pm at McCallum Junction Parking Lot (across from Cabela’s)
    • Thursday, June 12, 4 pm – 7 pm at Abbotsford Community Library (33355 Bevan Ave)
    • Saturday, June 14, 11 am – 4 pm at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre (near Purdy’s)
    • Friday, June 20, 3 pm – 7 pm at Highstreet Shopping Centre (Plaza near Cineplex)

Updating the OCP was identified as one of Council’s priority actions in their 2022-2026 Strategic Plan as part of their commitment to continually improving the quality of life for both current and future Abbotsford residents. The OCP update is a multi-stage process that began in January 2024. Input received during this last phase of engagement will be used to refine and finalize the updated Plan before it is presented to Council for consideration this fall.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to visit the Abbotsforward 2050 Let’s Talk page at letstalkabbotsford.ca/ocp to read the Stage 3 Draft Policy and Regulation Report, complete the online survey and learn more about all available engagement opportunities.
