During their trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens, BC Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Greene, and Semá:th First Nation Chief Silver met with federal Housing and Infrastructure Minister Robertson and federal Emergency Management and Community Resilience Minister Olszewski to discuss the impact of the December 2025 flood and the need for long-term flood mitigation funding.

During his trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens met with Abbotsford—South Langley MP Gill in the House of Commons.

During their trip to Ottawa, Mayor Siemens, BC Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Minister Greene, and Semá:th First Nation Chief Silver took part in a press conference on flooding in Abbotsford, stressing that critical flood-mitigation measures are required to safeguard our communities, economy, trade and energy infrastructure, and provincial food security.

July 20, 2025 - Sikh Heritage Museum exhibition opening
Councillors Chahal and Ross at the opening of the new year-long exhibit at the Sikh Heritage Museum at Gur Sikh Temple on prolific BC photographer Chandra Bodalia and the history of gurdwaras in BC. On behalf of the City, Councillor Ross thanked the Bodalia family for gifting their father’s vast collection to UFV and spoke about the importance of preserving this historical record.

Mayor Siemens gave a presentation on the past, present and future of Abbotsford and took questions from the audience as part of the Abbotsford Recreation Centre’s 55+ Learning Plus program. Members of the City’s Planning team were also there to discuss the Abbotsforward 2050 Official Community Plan update.

Mayor Siemens joined with leaders from BC, Washington State, Semá:th, Mathxwí and Leq’á:mel First Nations, the Nooksack Indian Tribe, Lummi Nation, and Whatcom County to sign the new Transboundary Flood Initiative, a collaborative framework designed to find and implement long-term flood mitigation and habitat restoration solutions to protect our communities, on both sides of the border.
