Clayburn Road Proposed Street Improvement Project

Project Type
Completed

Project Background:

The City of Abbotsford has heard concerns from local residents in Clayburn Village about speeding, high traffic volume, walking connectivity and the safety of pedestrians at the crosswalks.  A public information session was held for local residents on April 16, 2018. Residents were asked to provide feedback on the two proposed street improvement options.

Project Details:

Over the last number of years, the City of Abbotsford has been working with the Clayburn Village Society and other stakeholders to improve traffic safety on Clayburn Road through Clayburn Village. The key deliverables include:

  • Installing electronic speed-reader boards at the east and west ends of the Village, to encourage drivers to slow down as they enter the Village.
  • Improve the existing crosswalk and install another crosswalk on Clayburn Road that will increase the visibility and safety of pedestrians wishing to cross Clayburn Road. The improved crosswalk will be at Wright Street, and the new crosswalk will be at Clayburn Lane.
  • Crosswalks will include pedestrian refuge islands, which will provide a barrier between the pedestrian and on-coming traffic, while also serving to narrow the crossing width on Clayburn Road.

The City’s goal is to make our streets as safe as possible for all road users. The goal of installing these two crosswalks, is to have a positive impact by decreasing vehicle speed and increasing pedestrian safety.
