The Willband Creek watershed is located in the centre of the City, and includes Mill Lake, west as far as Clearbrook Road, North to Matsqui Prairie and east beyond McMillan Road. The total catchment area is an estimated 1,800 hectares. A significant portion of the watershed is within the City core area of urban development.
Abbotsford’s Official Community Plan (OCP), adopted in June 2016, provides a vision and a framework for how Abbotsford will grow to a population of 200,000. We are now reviewing and updating existing Master Plans and Studies to ensure all of our future operations, development, infrastructure, services, amenities and programs align with the vision set out in our OCP.
The objective of the Willband Creek Integrated Stormwater Management Plan is to maintain existing watershed health and achieve no-net-loss on a watershed basis, and to develop a plan to reduce the chances of flooding and identify prioritized capital projects to improve drainage within the Willband Creek watershed considering existing and future development, environmental, regulatory requirements and best practices.
