All areas in the City of Abbotsford including rural and urban areas have strict fire restrictions for Open-Air burning.

Any violations may be subject to municipal fines and/or cost recovery fees.
Restricted burning may be approved for rural areas as defined in Agricultural Burning Boundary map that conform to the
City of Abbotsford Fire Service Bylaw, and includes provisions for agricultural and land clearing as defined in the bylaw.
No burning is permitted in urban areas as defined in Agricultural Burning Boundary map. Several locations in Abbotsford will take yard & garden waste.
Restrictions also apply to the use of outdoor wood burning appliances, such as fire pits and burn barrels. Any backyard burning of residential waste, including both household and yard waste is strictly prohibited in all areas.
Reminder: The annual burning ban is in effect from June 1 to September 30 by the order of the Fire Chief. Absolutely no outdoor burning is permitted within the City of Abbotsford during the ban. Burning Permits will not be issued during this period.
Cooking Fires and Campfires
Outdoor cooking is permitted by the use of charcoal or gas fueled appliances only, such as barbecues and hibachis and includes use of outdoor gas fueled heaters.
Outdoor wood fueled cooking and camp fires may only be permitted within Matsqui Trails Greater Vancouver Regional District Park within approved fire pits.
