Our Vision

Our family of dedicated people striving to be the best fire service in British Columbia.

Mission Statement

The Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service is “making a difference in our community” through…

Prevention; we are reducing the loss of life and property by providing education, inspections and investigation.
Response; we are providing the emergency and public service needs of our community.
Safety; we are providing a safer community to live and work in.

Suppression: The Deputy Fire Chief Operations/Planning Logistics has the primary responsibility for emergency response planning and future capabilities. The Deputy Fire Chief Operations/Training is responsible for the day to day fire operations and training as it relates to emergency response and Chief Liaison Officer Auxiliary Division support Auxiliary Fire Fighters. The Fire Rescue Service uses the composite format of Auxiliary (paid on-call) and Career (full-time) fire fighters to deliver emergency response services. The initial response is made by Career fire fighters supported by Auxiliary fire fighters. Auxiliary and Career fire fighters function side-by-side as an integrated team to provide an efficient and effective level of emergency service. This composite team evolved into a modern fire service of highly trained emergency responders, second to none in their abilities and dedication to their positions and the citizens of Abbotsford.

Training:  The Training Division provides internal training for all Fire Rescue Service members. The division is comprised of one Deputy Fire Chief and two Career Training Officers. Due to the diverse nature of a fire fighter’s responsibilities and the associated risk, it is extremely important that fire fighters receive training in all aspects of their duties. Training provides the necessary skills to perform tasks safely and efficiently resulting in a higher level of service and safety for citizens.

Fire Prevention: Under the leadership Deputy Fire Chief-Fire Prevention the primary purpose of fire prevention is to promote public fire and life safety in existing buildings within the community. The Fire Rescue Service proactively adopted fire prevention as an important directive, in line with the City of Abbotsford’s vision of a safe and livable community. Fire and Life Safety Education programs are offered to school children, various citizen groups, and businesses and are designed to prevent or reduce injury or loss of life and property, through education.

Emergency Planning: The Emergency Planning function is a citywide program that supports all city departments, businesses, residents and other levels of government in the event of a disaster or emergency. Deputy Fire Chief – Emergency Planning ensures the City complies with Provincial legislation requiring an emergency plan, exercising the plan and the appointment of an Emergency Coordinator. The emergency plan relies on a number of volunteer and non government organizations for its success. The Emergency Planning Division coordinates these valuable resources.
