Except for the owner of a dog kennel or hobby kennel, the owner of every dog shall, within 30 days of obtaining a dog, or within 30 days of becoming a resident of the City of Abbotsford, register the dog with the Treasurer or the Poundkeeper, and purchase a licence in accordance with the fees below. Licences are available from the Tax Department on the first floor of Abbotsford City Hall, 32315 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, B.C.
Failure to purchase the required licence is a violation of the Dog Licence Bylaw. Violators shall be additionally liable for penalties as set out in the Bylaw Notice Enforcement Bylaw.

*A certificate from a veterinarian, indicating the dog has been neutered or spayed, must be presented at the time of purchase. If a dog is neutered or spayed before December 31 of the licence year and a veterinarian's certificate is produced, a refund of 50% of the amount paid will be made on any licence issued for that dog in the current year. If an owner acquires a dog after July 1 of the current licence year, licence fees will be pro-rated in accordance with the months remaining in the year.
Impounded/Stray Dogs
Dogs impounded in Abbotsford are taken to the City of Chilliwack's animal control facility at 44802A Wolfe Road, Chilliwack (take Lickman Road exit north to Wolfe Road). The facility is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday, by appointment only. The telephone number is 604-856-7505.
