The ICI sector is required to make their own arrangements for collection and disposal of garbage, recyclables, and compostables with a private waste collection contractor. The Metro Vancouver Matsqui Transfer Station requires businesses to separate garbage, recyclables and yard waste.
The ICI sector is also strongly encouraged to provide for the separate collection of all compostables, including food waste, and maximize re-use and recycling of any applicable wastes. For alternatives to disposal for commercial by-products, surplus inventory, or packaging materials please visit

ICI Recycling Initiative
In 2011, the City consulted with the ICI sector regarding making recycling mandatory at ICI facilities in Abbotsford. Feedback from the 2011 consultation sessions with the ICI community showed a definite interest in mandatory ICI recycling, with no additional fee. In early 2012 a report was approved by council, allowing further consultation to be held and bylaw amendments to be developed.
