Container and Bag Limits
If you have weekly, non-automated pickup, then your property is limited to two garbage containers or bags each pickup. If you have weekly, automated pickup, your garbage containers are limited to the wheeled garbage cart provided by the City. If you have bi-weekly pickup, then your property is limited to three garbage containers or bags each pickup. Stickers for additional garbage containers or bags can be purchased at a cost of $2 each at City Hall or at the Abbotsford or Matsqui Recreation Centres. Please note that there is no limit on the number of blue bags of recyclables that can be placed for pickup.
Size, Weight, and Condition
Unless you have automated pickup, garbage containers or bags must be less than 80 Litres in size and weigh less than 23 kg. All containers are required to have two functional handles, and a water tight lid. Please ensure handles are not broken. Either handle must be able to be used by itself to lift the can. The same size, weight, lid and handle requirements apply to containers used for yard waste collection. This is essential for the safety of collections staff, and to maximize efficiency.
If you have automated pickup, you will have been provided a wheeled garbage cart by the City. Only this container can be used for garbage collection in this area.
Mixed recyclables must be placed in a blue bag, and also must weigh less than 23 kg. The size limit for bags is 66 cm x 92 cm (26” x 36”) when empty.
Location of Containers and Bags on Pickup Day
On pickup day, all Blue Bags and garbage containers and bags must be within one metre of the curbside or public access serving the premises, unless special arrangements are made with the City.
