Specific items and material types are banned from being placed in the garbage. These banned items include:
- blue bag recyclables;
- yard waste;
- car batteries;
- waste oil and filters;
- gypsum/drywall;
- building/demolition materials;
- medications/pharmaceuticals;
- paints;
- solvents flammable liquids (gasoline);
- pesticides;
- electronic waste (computers, printers & TVs);
- ashes and dust; and
- animal/pet waste, including kitty litter except if the kitty litter has feces removed and the remaining kitty litter is double-bagged in two plastic bags and securely tied and placed into a garbage container with no more than 5 litres of kitty litter placed in one garbage container.
If any of these items are found in your garbage container, the container will not be emptied and a note will be left attached to the container with a brief description of the reason. For disposal of any of the above banned items, please check the lists for disposal options in Abbotsford.
