Paying Bi-monthly Utility Bills - FAQs

What is included on my bi-monthly utility bill?

Your bi-monthly utility bill includes charges for your previous two months of water consumption and sewer services.

What are my payment options?

You can pay your bi-monthly utilities bill via:

  • utility billing automatic payment plan
  • online banking - (similar to other utilities - electricity, gas, phone)
  • payment at your financial institution
  • by mailing a cheque to City Hall
  • in person payment at City Hall via cash, cheque or debit card

What if my mortgage company currently pays my annual taxes and utilities?

The City has provided your mortgage company with the estimated reduction to your 2012 property tax assessment as a result of the new bi-monthly utility billing process. Your mortgage company should then reduce the amount you contribute towards your property tax with your mortgage payment. Mortgage companies typically only pay charges that appear on the annual property tax notice, but it is
important for you to confirm this with your mortgage provider.

What if I am currently on the property tax Pre-Authorized Withdrawal Plan?

Effective August 15, 2011, your monthly property tax pre-payments will no longer include charges for your utilities. You may register for the Utility Billing Automatic Payment Plan which provides for automatic withdrawals of outstanding  bi-monthly utility fees from your chequing account.

Will there be penalties and/or interest charges for late payments?

In order to ease the transition to a bi-monthly utility notice no penalties or interest  will be charged for late payment until after July 1, 2012.
