The City of Abbotsford is committed to building a healthy community by preparing for an aging population. Seniors represent one of the fastest growing age groups in Abbotsford.
There are 17,310 seniors (65+), making up 14% of Abbotsford’s population and it is anticipated that Abbotsford will see a significant increase in the 65+ population over the next twenty years.
Seniors are living longer than before, and while the majority of seniors are healthy, contributing members of our society, the number of frail elderly is increasing. Many of Abbotsford’s seniors are low income, immigrants, or isolated.
The City of Abbotsford through its Social Planning department, in collaboration with a number of community agencies, and the Abbotsford Social Development Advisory Committee are working actively to address a variety of seniors’ issues in Abbotsford.
Seniors Projects and Research
All projects are funded by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities - Seniors Housing & Support Initiative (SHSI).
