In 2007 the City enacted a density bonusing policy as a way to generate revenue for encouraging and creating additional affordable housing projects in Abbotsford. In 2010 Council approved the Affordable Housing Opportunities Reserve Fund Policy and the Affordable Housing Capital Reserve Fund Bylaw, formalizing two Affordable Housing Funds for developing affordable housing.
The Affordable Housing Fund Technical Advisory Committee provides management and funding advice to Council, and reviews all applications for assistance to the Fund before making recommendations to Council. The Fund has supported two projects so far, the 2010-11 Extreme Weather Shelter Program and the Elizabeth Fry Firth Residence project.
