Transit Future Plan

Population growth and transportation challenges in the region have created the need for a comprehensive and long-range plan to guide the operation and future development of the transit system.

BC Transit intends to develop a new Transit Future Plan for the Central Fraser Valley Transit System in 2011, in collaboration with the Mission Abbotsford Transit Committee (MATC), City of Abbotsford and District of Mission staff. This plan will focus on local transit investment and will include regional and inter-regional connections. Public consultation will occur throughout the process to inform the plan and ensure improvements reflect the needs of transit riders.

The Transit Future Plan will continue work that was started as part of the Strategic Review of Transit in the Fraser Valley. This study identifies a vision for new transit investment in the Fraser Valley. The vision includes local transit services such as a rapid transit corridor on South Fraser Way and McCallum Road, high-frequency transit in the City core and employment areas and more efficient, on-demand ‘dial-a-bus’ service in low density areas. Regional and inter-regional transit service connections are also identified.

The new transit plan will replace the old and obsolete, Transit Business Plan for the Central Fraser Valley, which was completed in 2004.
