Tax Payment Options


Pay Online

Apply for Home Owner Grant Online

Claim your Home Owner Grant, if eligible, online through My City Online, or submit the application stub at the bottom of your tax notice to City Hall.

Pay Taxes Online

Below are links to the common banking web sites and their telephone numbers.

Under the bill payment section of your banking website, add the City of Abbotsford Taxes as a bill payee.  Use your property's folio number listed on your tax notice as the account number.

Note: The description for payee is specific to the banking institution. When adding the City as payee search for the word "abbotsford" and you will find us listed as "Abbotsford Tax", "Abbotsford (CITY) Taxes", or something similar. We have two payees one for Tax and one for utility payments.  Please choose the payee that refers to Property Taxes.

Credit Cards NOT Accepted

The City of Abbotsford does NOT accept credit cards for the payment of taxes or utilities.  
Taxpayers who choose to use a third party service provider to pay by credit card will be charged a convenience fee by the service provider. Taxpayers should be fully informed when choosing a third party service provider (ie research services & fees involved). The City does not endorse any third party service providers.

Mail

Payment must be received by the tax due date. The City is not responsible for delivery delays. The postmark is NOT accepted as date of payment. Your cancelled cheque is your receipt.

Mortgage Company

If your mortgage company pays the taxes and you are eligible for the Home Owner GrantBOTH the payment and the grant must be submitted by the tax due date.

Many property owner's mortgage payments will include payment of their yearly property taxes. Contact your mortgage company to verify a portion of the mortgage payment is allocated for property taxes and is forwarded to the City. The City is not responsible for errors made by mortgage providers.

Please ensure that your mortgage provider is aware whether or not you are claiming your Home Owner Grant each year and if you will be claiming the Basic or Additional Grant.

In Person at City Hall

Payment can be made Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, excluding statutory holidays. Expect long line-ups from mid June to the tax due date.

Drop Boxes for Cheques

Available 24 hours at both entrances to City Hall.  Cheques are payable to the City of Abbotsford and may be post dated to the tax due date.  Incomplete items will not be processed.  An administration fee of $25 will be charged for returned or dishonoured payments.

Property Tax Pre-payment Plan

New applicants

To apply complete the Property Tax Pre-payment Plan Application or obtain an application at the City of Abbotsford Tax Division. The pre-payment plan is a convenient 10-month automatic debit program running from August 15 to May 15 to pre-pay an estimate of next year’s taxes. To qualify, there must be no outstanding taxes on the property. There is no cost to join and interest is paid on pre-paid amounts. An estimate of the amount you would pay on the plan appears on the front of your property tax notice.  Your annual tax notice will include the amounts prepaid and the balance payable by the tax due date, if any.  If you have  overpaid, the credit will be applied to the next year's installments.

Existing plan members

Any outstanding tax account balance must be paid and, if eligible, the Home Owner Grant claimed by the tax due date in order to avoid late payment penalty charges, and to remain on the plan. Overdue tax account balances will result in automatic cancellation of your Tax Pre-Payment Plan.

Cancelling your plan

Property owners may cancel the plan at any time by:

email it to the Property Tax Division. One week’s notice is required prior to the 15th day of the month in order to stop the current month's withdrawal.

Self-managed option

You may choose to set up automatic debit payments from your financial institution’s website to pre-pay property taxes.
